The hand carved figure of Jesus that has graced the current sanctuary for years during Lent has been cleaned and refurbished. The figure will be attached to a metal frame that will be concealed behind the body. The statue and frame will be attached to two very thin metal cables so that it can be suspended in front of the metal cross in the new sanctuary during Lent. The cables are attached to a metal hoist in the ceiling above the cross, and when Lent is over, the figure will be hoisted into a recess in the ceiling above the cross. Our deep thanks to Harry Owanesian who carved this figure, donated it to the church during his membership here and graciously came to clean and repair the figure prior to the move to the new sanctuary.
There will be a lot of hard work, weather permitting, during the next several weeks to lay the sidewalks and steps and to build the planter islands in front of the building.
The Pit is getting a paint job. Note the blue wall in the right side of the picture.
Finally some lights on The Pit stage. What time is the show????
Over in the classroom area, walls are getting their second and final coat of the finish color. After that, the only thing left is carpet and baseboard molding!
Bathrooms are getting the partitions between toilets. If you can say that a restroom can be classy, then these qualify!!!
Cabinets are being installed in several places. Here in the parlor across from the new sanctuary the clothes cabinets and countertops for hair and makeup touchups are being installed. This space will be a wonderful addition for weddings, funerals, baptisms and other special services in the new worship space.
The sacristy room behind the chancel is getting cabinets.
A LOT has happened in the new sanctuary. Both choir riser areas have their floorcovering. The main floor is 90% covered with sheet vinyl or carpet. Wood paneling is being installed.
This is a good shot of the carpet in one of the choir risers. The same carpet is on the main floor.
The main floor is a patch work of sheet vinyl, carpet and protective plastic or paper coverings.
Wood panels are being installed along the front of the chancel.
Going, going, going???? Maybe in several weeks! The job site superintendent will move inside the new building for the rest of the construction process.
